It’s been a very troubling weekend; the horrible massacre in Norway, Amy Winehouse dying, 33 dead on a bullet train in China and 6 people dead at an ice rink in the states.

How very lucky we are to be safe and healthy.

Mid Winter

Had a week of horrifying depression. I don’t know what happened, I just completely crashed. Today is the first day since last Monday that I haven’t cried. That’s kind of ridiculous when you’re excited to get through a day without bawling your eyes out for no reason.

Watching Parks and Recreation perked me up a bit (as much as something can when your brain chemicals have gone completely mental). I seem to catch onto things a whole lot later than everyone else…I got hooked on Beverly Hills 90210 in the early 00’s. Really late to that party!

Full and Sleepy

The hard drive on my computer died, I’ve been sans netbook for a solid month. Being without computer meant I started reading again, A LOT. I’d forgotten the peace and comfort I got from curling up under my duvet with a good book.

I’ve also been baking again….

Red velvet cupcakes! The recipe called for 6 tbsp’s of colouring but I added half…I’m fairly cautious of colouring. Very yummy!

I like the idea of this bus roll style bucket list although I have problems with the bucket list concept. I saw an interview with a famous journo who is currently fighting cancer and he said he doesn’t believe in bucket lists because it suggest finality and he refuses to accept that. I think that’s a great mentality and prefer the idea of having a list of things you want to do and always be adding to it once you’ve achieved it. I feel like completing a bucket list is the ultimate let down because the thing that comes next is something nobody really wants. /end rant

Zelda Fitzgerald biography and a can of poppies!

This is what $11 worth of books look like. From the top: The Rocketeer by Peter David, Throughly Modern Millie, Little Girl Lost by Al Diorio (about Judy Garland), The Consuls File by Paul Theroux, Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian (I thought this was the saddest book in the world when I was younger), The Colour Purple by Alice Walker, The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger and What is the What by Dave Eggers.

I was really excited to find The Rocketeer, it was the first movie I went to at the (back then) new cinemas in New Lynn, Auckland. It’s a really comic book style movie (probs because it’s based on a comic book), great costumes and a guy with a rocket pack who fights Nazis in a zeppelin.

I have been obsessively watching Heston Blumenthal’s show where he does themed feasts over the past week. It really makes me resent my utterly rubbish cooking skills but I’m amazed by his creativity. He’s like a child who just happens to be an incredible chef. Actually, maybe more like a teenager considering he made jelly with dildos in it on one of the episodes…

I loved the entirely edible house! ^

I don’t have big nights out often, I’m agoraphobic and a total home body. But last night was one of my bff’s birthday’s at Freaky Tiki in Newtown. Followed it with a visit to that amazing, huge and completely daunting second hand bookshop down the street, Gould’s Book Arcade. Got some goodies but wow, it’s quite expensive for second hand books. Worth a look though!

I watched the leaked first ep of The Borgias last night which was really watchable and filled with beautiful art, costumes, jewellery, long, long hair and decent amounts of poisoning and murder. I can’t wait for the whole series to air!

Lucrezia Borgia is described as having heavy blonde hair which fell past her knees, a beautiful complexion, hazel eyes which constantly changed colour, a full, high bosom, and a natural grace which made her appear to "walk on air"; these were the physical attributes that were highly appreciated in Italy during that period. Finally laminated the postcards that I was given by people in Iran. I want them preserved forever and ever!

Ruby Woo by Mac is the best red lipstick I’ve tried. I have the Revlon Matte Red but it’s not red enough and goes a little flaky and I splashed out on a Lime Crime lipstick which smeared and stained and was a total waste of money. You can’t go wrong with Mac!
